Preface

On behalf of the organizing committee, it is my greatest pleasure to welcome all participants to the “Hokudai-NCTU Joint Symposium on Nano, Photo and Bio Sciences” This year's symposium is organized by the Research Institute for Electronic Science (RIES) of Hokkaido University, and supported by Dynamic Alliance for Open Innovation Bridging Human, Environment and materials (Five-Star Alliance).

The first joint symposium between RIES of Hokkaido University and Center for Interdisciplinary Science (CIS) of National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) started about 8 years ago for exchanging information and searching common interests between the two institutes in the field of Nano, Photo and Bio Sciences. The activity of us evolved into the Inter-University Exchange Agreement between NCTU and Hokkaido University in 2013. Since then we are continuing the joint symposium between the two universities every year in Taiwan and Japan alternatively.

Hokudai-NCTU Joint Symposium this year will be held in Sapporo. We will have 6 invited speakers from NCTU and 6 from Hokkaido University. The symposium of this year is joined and supported by above mentioned five-star alliance which is composed of five national university-attached institutes including: RIES, the Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials (Tohoku Univ.), the Laboratory for chemistry and Life Science (Tokyo Tech.), the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research (Osaka Univ.), and the Institute for Materials Chemistry and Engineering (Kyushu Univ.). So we are inviting Prof. Shin Mizukami from Tokoku Univ. and Prof. Hideyuki Nakano from Muroran Institute of Technology who are participating the projects of the Dynamic Alliance. Additionally, we created the poster session from this year in order to encourage relatively younger scientists to participate in the discussion. We expect fruitful discussion throughout the two day’s symposium.

Finally, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the invited speakers, and to all participants for joining this symposium.

Representing the organizing committee,
